The project

CLIENT CHALLENGE

With more than 30,000 students, the Polytechnical University of Madrid was faced with serious traffic and parking issues throughout the school year. In an effort to resolve the problem, the university undertook a parking monitoring project to detect available parking spots using artificial vision techniques. The processed information was shared with students and faculty via mobile app for real-time parking availability information.

SOLUTION

This pioneer project began in 2011, when the most common Smart Parking solution was based on in-ground sensors. Wellness TechGroup's innovative camera-based approach was deployed using the existing video camera infrastructure on campus, covering two different high traffic parking lots used by both students and staff.

RESULTS

  • Reduced time spent searching for parking.
  • Reduced traffic.
  • Reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
  • Improved user experience.
